"Pencil" Rubin Postaer and Associates Swietlik Editorial Rebecca Jasmine producer I created this CG pencil for the opener to the Rubin Postaer and Associates demo reel. The client provided the backplate which includes the table, wall and chairs. I modeled and animated the pencil to roll forward and stop just before the virtual camera lens. Creating the pencil, it's shadow, highlights, movement and the reflection of the table in the pencil and the reflection of the pencil in the table was the easy part. The trick was to make the backplate look like it wasn't just a still image. To pull that off I animated separate blurs, one for the fore end of the table and one for the chairs and wall in the background to trick the eye into focusing on the sharper area of the image which should always be the pencil.
